Dressage well represented at the 2009 EA Sport Achievement Awards

The Equestrian Australia Awards Ceremony took place at the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney on Saturday, 5 June 2010.

The Sydney CDI 3-Star was awarded the Equestrian Australia 2009 Event of the Year.  This is the second time this event has been honoured with this award having won the inaugural Event of the Year award in 2006. 

Dressage NSW member and young rider Megan Bryant won the Young Athlete of the Year Award.  Megan won the CDI-Y at the 2010 Sydney CDI and was named as the NSW Eventing Junior rider of the year in 2009.  She is also a member of the NSWIS Emerging Talent Squad for dressage.

Well know dressage personality Carolyn Lieutenant – owner of Victory Salute, took out the Owner of the Year Award. 

Chairperson of the Australian Dressage Committee Lesley Sullivan received a Special Services to the Sport Award.

Sharon Jarvis who competed in open competition in the Prix St Georges competition at the 2010 Sydney CDI was awarded the Para-Equestrian Athlete of the Year. 

Franz Venhaus, ex CEO of Equestrian Australia was awarded the Equestrian Australia Order of Merit. 
An extract from the Awards programme: “Franz has devoted his whole self to the role (CEO of EA) often working long hours 7 days a week and has lead the most significant changes and progression in the operation of Equestrian Australia in over 50 years”.

Franz has a long association with Dressage NSW having been a Committee Member for 18 years - the longest serving Committee member to date. He retired from the DNSW Committee in 2001 but continued to take a keen interest in dressage affairs as well as supporting Toni with the running of the Sydney CDI.
